Natural Resources Planning

The Commission conducts research, analyses, public information, policy development and regional planning to support State and local activity for the conservation of natural resources for social and ecological benefits throughout the Southwest Region.

Natural Resource Plan

To assist the planning process and facilitate dialogue among communities and others around natural resource protection and management, the Natural Resources Plan provides an overview of the significant conditions and trends, issues and challenges and opportunities facing the Region's diverse natural resources, and the infrastructure we rely on to safely access and utilize these resources. It highlights strategies for communities, organizations, and others to consider in addressing natural resource, water infrastructure, energy, and climare challenges at the regional and local level.

Regional conservation planning comprises the interaction of several elements:

  • Staff level research and analyses

  • Public involvement in policy-making

General goals of the program:

  • Develop and Maintain Regional Natural Resources Information Base

  • Support the Commission's Natural Resources Advisory Committee

The Commission's regional natural resources program is structured primarily under a cooperative work program with the NH Department of Environmental Services known as the Regional Environmental Planning Program.

The Commission also undertakes activities with support from the NH DES programs:

  • NH Rivers Management and Protection Program
  • Non-Point Source Pollution Prevention Program
