SWRPC Traffic Counts

NHDOT and the nine regional planning commissions conduct a traffic counting program throughout the state. NHDOT maintains permanent automatic traffic recorders, which measure traffic volumes on a daily basis at selected locations.  Short-term "spot" counts are conducted on an annual basis by regional planning commissions at locations selected by NHDOT on state and local roads. SWRPC typically collects 7-day counts at one third of the locations, which number around 400, in the Southwest Region.

NHDOT Traffic Data Management System (TDMS)

The TDMS is a web-based interactive map that allows users to customize searches, and directly view and download traffic count data. Information published here is the most current information available and supersedes the report format listed below. Once a station is selected on the map, click on "View Detail" to change the left side of the screen to show all records associated with that count station. Available data can also be located using various search parameters. Reports for each stored count can be generated by clicking the "eyeball" icon that appears to the left side of a study dates for a specific count location.

Traffic Count Data

Seasonal traffic volumes are collected using automatic traffic recorders (via the black tubes you may see stretched across the road in the summer). The 7-day samples are adjusted for seasonal traffic variations and percentage of truck traffic - reported as Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT). Until 2016, NHDOT published the seasonal and permanent traffic volume data in their annual Traffic Volume Report.  More information on other reports is available here.
